Where are the rat books?

Remi: All I see are bird and nature books! There's even dog books and we don't have a dog! Something is wrong here...

Luna: Mom where are the rat books?!

Emma: Oh wait! I think I spotted some rat books on the next shelf: Training Your Pet Rat by Gerry Buscis & Barbara Somerville; Rats: Complete Care Made Easy by Debbie Debbie Ducommun; Rat: How the World's Most Notorious Rodent Clawed its Way to the top by Jerry Langton; and More Cunning than Man: A complete history of the rat and its role in human civilization by Robert Hendrikson. There's not much there, however. Does anyone have more suggestions?

Rest in Peace Chmurka

Updates

Raven: First, thank you The Fluffy Tribe Ratz and Miss Steffy for the great suggestions on hiding the awful taste of Baytril! Mom tried both of your ideas and I'm much more cooperative plus I get a tasty treat! I'm also beginning to feel much better. But, poor Oliver is still not very well and has also been put on Zithromax. Poor guy.

Remi: One of mom's co-workers said I would fit perfectly in a horror movie because I look so creepy. I was very insulted. Mum, however, assures me that I'm the most handsome Dumbo birk boy around! I'll take mom's word any day.

On a side note, mom went for an interview on Friday with the university trying to recruit her and it went very well. They were impressed with mum's research and mum was very pleased with their institution and offer. But, she will have to be interviewed a second time by some committee before any final decisions are made.

The Vet Visit

Raven

Oliver

Raven: Our vet is going on maternity leave for a few months so mum, against our will, decided to bring the entire crew in for a vet visit. Oliver was not impressed – he actually pooped and peed on the vet. Emma, was being her usual drama queen self with her snorting and squealing. I was a little angel of course! But, the vet heard some congestion in my lungs so mum has to give me this awful tasting medication called Baytril. Mum tries to cover the taste by mixing it with some sweet syrup but she can’t fool me so mum better come up with a more creative way to give me those meds. Oliver is also sounding rather congested and he is also on Baytril but he licks the sweet stuff right up – boys are not as sharp as girls. The rest of the crew is healthy and sounding just fine. We also got weighed and I had the best physique (mom says it’s because I’m super hyper) and Remi is the fattest…I mean curvy:

Me (Raven): 294 grams
Emma: 348 grams
Luna: 364 grams
Oliver: 377 grams
Remi: 484 grams

To move or not to move...

Well, we might move. Mom is being recruited by a university in another city but she is having mixed feelings about this new job prospect. So, mom has listed the pros and cons.

Pros
1. A full-time job, instead of her current contract work.
2. More money and more security.
3. An amazing opportunity to be in the forefront of a new innovative program.
4. Finally a chance to do more research, which mom loves to do.
3. Cheaper housing compared to the city we now live, which means we could get our own rat room (we hope!).
4. Because of cheaper housing, mom could perhaps afford a house and finally get her dog. If we get our own rat room we’ll tolerate the dog.
5. There’s a fabulous nature club located in the city.

Cons
1. We would be moving to a much bigger congested noisy city. Mom absolutely loves where we live – it’s small, quiet, clean, lots of nature trails, and greenery.
2. Mom would miss her co-workers (and wonderful friends), and great boss.
3. There will be more responsibility.
4. Mom would have to brush-up on her French (it’s a French institute) which she hasn’t used in many years (but her potential new employer is willing to help with the brush-up).
5. Weather-wise, it’s a much colder city.
