Worst Rat Poses

According to mom, it is near impossible to get great pictures of us because we can never sit still. She can get pretty frustrated with us, heh heh heh heh We just think she's complains too much. The following poses are not that bad; they are just artistic.

Looking for homes...

I was asked to post this flyer...there is talk about having a rat train travel to the USA

Rat Train from Maritimes to Ontario

Angels Heart Rescue of New Brunswick is well over maximum capacity and need your help! Rats of all ages are looking for homes from anywhere in the eastern provinces to Ontario. The rat train will be driven by volunteers. These rats have been well socialized and can be adopted for a fee of $10. This fee is waived if you can arrange for spay or neuter. Donations (adoption fee) are expected to cover cost of gas and medical supplies. Each adopter will receive a Rat health Care Book and be expected to sign a standard adoption contract. Rats of various ages, coat, colours and ear types are available for adoption and although it is preferable to adopt out in pairs or groups, every adoption counts.

This brought tears to my eyes...

Further proof animals love unconditionally...

"This soldier, I realized, must have had friends at home and in his regiment, yet he lay there deserted by all except his dog. I looked on, unmoved, at battles which decided the future of nations. Tearless, I had given orders which brought death to thousands. Yet here I was stirred, profoundly stirred, stirred to tears. And by what? By the grief of one dog."

(Napoleon Bonaparte, on finding a dog beside the body of his dead master, licking his face and howling, on a moonlit field after a battle. Napoleon was haunted by this scene until his own death.)

Awwwww!!

In Desperate Need...

I know there are not many Canadians who visit my blog neverthless I am posting this information in case there is a stray Canadian that stops by. A rat rescue (Angels Heart Rat Rescue) in Moncton, New Brunswick is becoming overwhelmed with rats at the moment - the rescue has approximately 100 rats that need homes and financial assistance. There are some rats that also require foster care and older rats that need palliative care. The wonderful Rat Shack has pictures of many of the rats up for adoption and information on the "rat train" people are organizing to assist in transporting rats. More information can be obtained by contacting Alexandria. Donations are also being accepted through Pay Pal.

Remembering Emily

Here’s another trip down memory lane…Emily was adopted from the SPCA back when I was working on my dissertation in 2002. I named Emily after one of my favourite Canadian writers and artists, Emily Carr. Emily’s story was that she was found (in a hamster cage) abandoned in an apartment. When I adopted her she was just bones, had a head tilt, and was terrified of me. Eventually, with much patience and love, Emily and I bonded. Emily became very cuddly and affectionate - she was a real sweetheart. Sadly, I only had Emily for a year before she succumbed to a pituitary tumour but she left her paw prints all over my heart.

Mother's Day

Happy Mother's Day to all the moms of humankids AND furkids! Have a great day!

75 days until The X-Files 2 movie

We, the Rattie Crew, have come to the conclusion that mum has taken her excitement over the new The X-Files movie, coming out in July, a bit too far. This blog is supposed to be all about us although we do allow the odd nature and other critter stories, with permission of course. Yet, mom posts this Mulder and Scully picture! What does The X-Files have to do with nature, rats, or animals? Mum, has also been excited about the official The X-Files movie trailer being released on Monday. So what? Mum is also re-watching all the episodes in anticipation of the new movie and really we can’t fathom what mum finds so interesting or scary. Aliens, ghosts, the paranormal, science fiction – and? Give us the Ratatouille movie any day! Well, we have to admit there was one episode about a bunch of cats hiding in a museum basement – the idea of hundreds of cats hiding in the basement is scary for any rat! **shudder** Anyway, because our mum does spoil us, we have allowed her to post one picture of her beloved show for today, but after that it’s back to us! And mum really needs to get out more.

Tissue Rats

Mum has been so busy with work that she has become quite slack at updating OUR blog...

Nevertheless, Auntie J. gave us some boxes which we love! Once, we get tired of using the boxes as sleeping quarters they become our new toy! The boxes are one of the few things mum doesn't mind us shredding to pieces.
